A cold-hearted reaper, MAKHALISS, does not hesitate take lives of humans because of her grudge against them. She believes they are all better off dead because death brings peace to their spirits. One day she meets a dying 17 year-old girl, Satsuki, who suffers from the guilt of leaving her single mother behind. As MAKHALISS witnesses the tragic fate of SATSUKI and her mother, she learns why some spirits choose to suffer and how love could be so cruel yet beautiful.

"Every frame of Makhaliss is beautifully and meticulously crafted by the director Koji Yamamoto. The film is merciless in reflecting the depth of love and human suffering, and in this way it is honest and courageous."

Koji considers himself full time filmmaker and part time musician. Born and raised in Japan, Koji moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18 and studied filmmaking at California State University, Long Beach. Raised in a fundamentalist Bible Belt community that banned movie theaters, cinematographer Nicholas Matthews found filmmaking. Since then, he’s shot features, shorts, music videos, and commercials in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and across the U.S.CUCK, his latest theatrical release, was described as "a lurid psychosexual nightmare" (Hollywood Reporter) & “a vitally relevant work...repellant, honest, & astute” (The Guardian). The film premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival before winning the Seymour Cassel Award at the Oldenburg Film Festival.
Matt is a bilingual sound specialist who's worked on many films, commercials and tv shows both in the US and Japan. He is a co-founder/owner of Los Angeles-based production sound collective, BAMFSOUND.
