Director：KOJI YAMAMOTO
Koji considers himself full time filmmaker and part time musician. Born and raised in Japan, Koji moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18 and studied filmmaking at California State University, Long Beach. His skills are not only limited to directing but VFX, Editing, Producing, and Music Composition. He has provided his skills to many commercials, films and music videos both in Japan and America.
Being one of the few English-speaking bilingual directors in Japan specialized in the American style of filmmaking, Koji has attracted many large international companies such as POKERSTARS, AIRBNB, FWD GROUP and large Japanese corporate such as SONY, SQUARE ENIX and NIPPONHAM GROUP. His previous film GHOST OF THE SUN has been selected for the 69th Cannes Film Festival.
Cinematographer：NICHOLAS MATTHEWS
Raised in the fundamentalist Christian subculture of the Bible Belt, cinematographer Nicholas Matthews fell in love with storytelling as a child to explore life outside the confines of that perspective. It evolved into a fascination with telling regional stories about fringe ideologies and marginalized people.
Recently, he's filmed projects in Japan, France, Mexico and across the US. The Hollywood Reporter praised his use of "expansive widescreen" and "adept long takes" on the 2018 Dances with Films Grand Jury Prize winner. And the L.A. Times called his work on border thriller The Boatman "more art film than action film; deliberately paced, skillfully shot, emotionally challenging." In addition, he's worked with artists ranging from Ice Cube to Rise Against, as well as brands like Specialized Bikes, Lego and Experian.
CHARACTERS / CAST
Makhaliss（Diana Acevedo）
A cold-hearted reaper who holds grudge against humans. She's visible only to those who are about to die. She believes humans are better off dead because death brings peace to their spirits.
Satsuki（Yui Ohta）
A dying teenage girl who suffers from the guilt about leaving her mother, a single mother who has nobody except Satsuki. Makhaliss is visible to her but, for some mysterious reason, she shows no fear.
Manami（Kotomi Hirota）
Satuki's mother who loves Satsuki more than anything. Haunted by the fear of losing her only child, she struggles with this hopeless situation where all she can do is to watch her child slowly die.
Tokali（Glen Caspillo）
Makhaliss' wise mentor. He understands human minds and the real meanings of peace brought by death. He leaves Makhaliss valuable advice: "Peace has many faces..."
Ghost（Mio Kiyota）
A mysterious ghost who suddenly stops Makhaliss when she's about to take Satsuki's life. She's the only existence who can physically touch Makhaliss.
STORY
A cold-hearted reaper, MAKHALISS, does not hesitate take lives of humans because of her grudge against them. She believes they are all better off dead because death brings peace to their spirits. One day she meets a dying 17 year-old girl, Satsuki, who suffers from the guilt of leaving her single mother behind. As MAKHALISS witnesses the tragic fate of SATSUKI and her mother, she learns why some spirits choose to suffer and how love could be so cruel yet beautiful.
